AirVenture 2011 - General

We arrived and had the afternoon to talk around the show for awhile.

The obligatory photo of the Brown Arch.  Look how nice the weather is this Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning, I went to the EAA Wood workshop and built a wood rib.

A shot of the Control Tower at the world's busiest airport  -- at least during this week.

Tuesday noon I took a shuttle bus out to Appleton airport -- very convenient, by the way -- picked up the rental car and met my Dad and Doug at the airport.  Then we went to the EAA Museum Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday morning we went into the show.  It rained most of the morning but the afternoon was OK.  They airshow took place but they had to curtail some of the show because of the low clouds.

Left to right:  brother-in-law Bruce, my Dad, brother-in-law Doug (Oshkosh first-timer).

Dad giving his feet a break  -- Doug inspecting the workmanship under the left wing.

Bruce determined to watch the airshow despite the rain.

They got most of the airshow in Thursday afternoon.  There was one routine to go when the skies just opened up.  Everyone ran for cover -- except these two guys who were determined to stick it out!  The picture doesn't capture how hard it was raining at the time:  really a torrential downpour.  The last performer never did get his routine in.

Heading back to the car after the Thursday airshow.  Doug is unable to contain his AirVenture excitement.  Cameo appearance by Mike R. -- RV4 Driver and Dragon Flight member -- on the left.
